Hayato walked into the room slowly and with care. The atmosphere in there was pretty heavy and he couldn't really figure from where that came. Was it from the strange shadows on the walls? Was it the fence that kept the weapons away from anyone who just entered? Or was it the old ninja with the face covered with battle scars?
"Yeah, it's totally the old man..."
The old Ninja wasn't even looking at the boy who made his way inside the armory at slow steps. So far, all the equipment he had was sent from home. But he had decided he needed to start behaving like a real ninja... And not depend on his parents.
"Excuse me, sir...?"
Hayato held his breath, as the elder Shonobi turned around to look at him. Actually, the boy felt his whole body freeze. Those eyes looked empty. The whole expression on that face marked by a life of fighting was frightening.
"What do you want, Kid?"
Haruko peeked over to the back of the room, trying to escape from the old man's gaze. It was a long hall filled with different types of weapons. Some, he was sad to admit, he had never seen and had not the slightest clue of how to use. Maybe he was still too young into the academy. His eyes went from weapon to weapon, stopping at one of a few swords.
That look in his face did not pass the old ninja. He knew what the boy was looking at. It would be a long way for a kid to get one of those... Those were restricted weapons for ANBU members. He, being the University Blacksmith, had access to a couple of them.
"Boy! What is it that you want? You can't keep yourself here all day long!"
Hayato snapped out of his torpor, to look back into the old man's face. Real swords? He had never seen any ninja using one of those. Not even his teachers! Let alone anybody else. It was a impressive sight and he was sure they wouldn't be there for long... And, as a matter of fact, they were just to be delivered to newly accepted ANBU. But that was not for him to know or ask.
"Sir, I need about five kunai and five explosive tags to go along with them... That... That is all I need, sir!"
The old man turned his back to the boy and walked down the hall of weapons without saying a word. It was not long before he got back with the items required by the young student. Hayato took a look at them, laid in front of him and took a couple of steps forward.
"Be sure to train hard, kid, so you can get one of those one day."
Those were the old man's last words to Hayato, before the kid took a bow, grabbed his gear and stormed out of that sad and creepy place.
