    Default Pokemon

Whats so exciting about it and what is the idea that drove the original series?

    Is it the strange creatures
    Powers?
    People?
    Training?
    Fighting?
Portable pets summoned at any second?

You mean you want... A serious analysis of Pokemon! o_O
Hmm... must resist the urge to write an article...

Well let's see, if I'm correct Pokemon started out as a card game designed for kids. So in essence the franchise started out as a toy which evolved into an SMT esque game that focused heavily on player interaction (swapping and battling) as well as the ability to create one's own monster team.
I believe that it was the TV series that made the franchise. As the existing merchandise was collectible card games and a videogame based on collecting; fans had areas in which they could satisfy their needs as fans (following the Uses and Gratifications Theory) and delve further into the franchise they loved by collecting their favourite monsters.
In essence "Gotta Catch Em' All!" is what drove the series.

    I can't believe I just did that -_-'

I have to admit that catching them all was a real test.
Training them all to 100 soon became my cause.

lol I have every pokemon all the way up to the end of the GBA series and almost all are lvl 100 ( including metapod and other EVIL pokemon that get no real combat attacks ) .... I must admit though I did breeding to get attacks on them they wouldnt learn to bypass the stupid ones they get .... magikarp was a pain to lvl though .... I ended up having to exp.share it to 100 :( it was horrible .... abra was probably the easiest one to get to 100 from lvl 5 ( managed to breed attacks I didnt expect to into it when I was breeding and somehow got it knowing attacks I didnt think would transfer because they werent listed as breedable moves like zap cannon ( not sure how I got it onto it cause it transferred once but when I tried again it didnt ) .... pokemon was so addicting

pokemon makes people want to play it .... it is like a drug ... especially if you get into chain breeding ... it is hilarious how messed up some pokemon you can make are ... a grass pokemon that uses flamethrower .... fire pokemon with hydro pump a water pokemon with zap cannon .... that dont have the attacks type as one of theirs ( and excluding the fire starter that can get hydro pump )

To me it was as an extreme form of cock fighting with thunder balls and fire beams. Nothing more, nothing less.

You clearly never saw the dept of strategy that is in a game like this, yes it may be childlike but it can test your way of battling, its like tnr in a snse but just with cute monsters lol. I assure u most of the ppl who hate on the game never played it and drew their conclusions merely on watching the series.

I agree with the post above there is a lot of strategy in the game and I've seen it evolve(no pun intended) throughout the years 13 years and still going strong. Also training pokemon to level 100 is not done as much as it used to be. The main reason any of my pokemon are level 100 is they were either transferred from another generation in which flat battles were not yet added or they are on the team I use to train my EV trained pokemon to level 50 after they are EV trained. Which I love EV training because I've met 3 shiny pokemon doing it so far/

Brock: I want to be the pokemon breeder.

Surprisingly it was pokemon breeding that came up as an issue. I didn't really expect that breeding would be that high on the list that makes pokemon the fun game it is today. I'd always been fascinated by the idea of portable monsters summoned from mysterious balls. I.E: The professor Oak condition. Catching them was a challenge but imagining that you can always summon a pokemon at anytime you like is cool too. Sure, originally pokemon were more than just rehashed anime personality spin-off and was very heart-catching but the fact pokeballs practically took no space whatsoever was cool. Click, expand, toss. I personally was a fan of squirtle.

To me pokeballs made the pokemon the game/franchise/card game so cool especially after learning the american culture.

I only wish Herman Cain was a Pokemon... I have no idea what type he would be, but I'm sure it would be super effective...

as far as the series goes I only liked the first season. The games are worth playing through though. It's kinda fun to take on the role of a pokemon trainer :D EV FTW
