Background: Otonashi; a noble clan renowned for their versatility. Many charismatic businessmen, skilled artisans, elegant performers, intelligent scholars, and fierce warriors have originated from the Otonashi bloodline. Often viewed as geniuses, they hold perfection and self-discipline to the utmost regard. They were not always so well know of course and while rich with accomplishments, their history is not without faults. Once referred to as the Silent Oni, a secret sect of spies and assassins from the Land of Silence, they were known for their great martial prowess, stealth, and ability to kill. They were forced into servitude by the daimyō of the Water Country, however, after afailed attempt on his life. Bound by an ancient fūinjutsu which has since been lost, anyone of the Otonashi bloodline cannot go against the word of those within the royal family of the Water Country. They once possessed an ancient Kekkei Genkei, a dōjutsu known as Senrigan which granted them the ability to synchronize with those around them to see through their eyes and beyond. It is what made granted them the reputation they once had. Using it to track prey, map areas, and coordinate attacks, they were very deserving of their name. The ability was sealed though by the founder at the daimyō's orders. Despite this they remained just as deadly, which lead to their place as the royal families personal bodyguards.
For half a century they remained prisoners, and being the personal lapdogs of the very family that sealed them into submission caused much turmoil within the clan. While some decided fighting their self imposed imprisonment was pointless and followed their jailers without question, others refused to obey and sought to bring an end them. This eventually escalated into an all out war within the Otonashi clan, causing much bloodshed and the death of innocent lives. This internal blood feud lasted four long years, until the head of the clan had finally had enough. Using a forbidden fūinjutsu, she sacrificed herself in order to banish the demons of her clan to a different dimension, finally ending the conflict. The daimyō, ever thankful to the remaining clan members, granted the Otonashi noble status who continued to serve him.
Several centuries have come to pass and the Otonashi clan have made a name for themselves. Increasingly educated and talented, they are well known for silver tongues and craftsmanship as well. After receiving their status as nobles, they began to look for a different path in life. Of course they remained servants of the Water Country royalty. Through years of hard work they have become very successful in a number of things including business, craft, performing arts, and academics. With deep pockets and deeper connections, the Otonashi name is one that commands much respect and fear.
Now we come to Shūhei, a paragon of the Otonashi bloodline. Shūhei is a genius prodigy and next in line as head of the clan. A punctilious and quick witted boy, his father was very strict and ruthless in his upbringing. He sought to mold his son into perfection, going to very great lengths in order to do so and leaving no room for error. He was enrolled in private schools and given the best tutors money could buy, he even forced the boy to run several businesses at the tender age of 9. There was nothing his father wasn't willing to do. He treated him like a thing rather than his own son, promoting callousness within the boy who always wears a poker face. This isn't to say the boy is without emotion, only that he shows very little. It has been said by a number of people that when he smiles it is like silk and his words like honey. Ever calculating and confident, Shūhei is a very capable and self sufficient young man as well as insightful. He is capable of being inhumanly cold as well. At the age of 6 his mother died, raped and murdered by a group of men. His father was furious, and rather than send his best men to take care of them sent Shūhei instead. Within a week it is said that the boy tracked down and killed the three men responsible. He was enrolled within the university on his fourteenth birthday as a “gift” from his father. Now beginning his career as a ninja there is no telling what kind of man he will grow up to be. But only time will tell.
