So I just turned Genin and I didn't get a bloodline T.T now what? I'm trying to find a sensei but I seem to be generally ignored in the tavern at my village. I don't know what to do right now, so I'm just training defenses still...

Cap out defenses, make your one ryo alt, and spam serious crimes to raise ryo to buy rep... To get a bloodline. B ranks are nice and handy at jounin. Depending on what BL you get, pick an offense.
...then move to Shine, where all the cool people, are.
Cap pools, Continue to cap defenses,
Choose an offense that you find most interesting and train that.
"If I knew anything, it would still be nothing"
Spoiler!
SneakyDuc Says: Shotgun to the face is not a contingency plan, it is the only plan.
I hate being ignored in the tavern. Total meanies... Dx
Now have some fun and think about what rank you'd like to hold at. You could go through all the ranks to Commander but that takes a long time and there are advantages and disadvantages to remaining or advancing in rank. Genin can't be attacked so use your time as a Genin to train, have fun and think about your next move; get an avatar, make a nindo, join a clan, fight in the Battle-Arena. As a Chuunin you're likely to be attacked continuously by raiders. You may want to consider becoming an outlaw to avoid raiders once you reach Chuunin. The Manual is your greatest guide and has all the information you'll need to decide.
Since you didn't get a bloodline, you'll do equal damage with all offense-types and have no weakness. You could choose an offence now or continue training your defenses while either earning popularity points for a C-rank bloodline or buying popularity/reputation points for a bloodline whose effects will determine your offense. Feel free to message me in-game if you have further questions. ;)

I would stay jounin.
You'd get straight wrecked at Commander without a bl
Thank you very much for the guidance. I'm slightly troubled to hear that having no bloodline is a major disadvantage.
It's not a major disadvantage. You'll straight lose.
So....why should I even bother playing if I'm going to straight lose in the future....
Keep in mind that there are players at all stages of the game currently playing. Just because you'll lose to an endgamer with a bloodline doesn't mean you'll lose to everybody.
You can also save up ryo to buy reps from other players, and get a bloodline that way, like Gunz previously stated.
But there is one they fear. In their tongue, he is Trollvahkiin -- 4chanborn!
for example... i never got any BL in any of my accounts with free roll... and i have no means to use real life money in this game. so i just kept training while pwning some with-Bl noobs, and getting pwnt by some with-Bl experts till I got enough ryo to buy reps for my BL.
seriously, BL doesn't matter that much earlier in the game, it'll matter only when u r end-game or near that position.. like when u start hitting over 100-200k damage.
