The Hunt for the Crimson Reckoning Begins

The Global ANBU could no longer dismiss the killings as isolated attacks.

Trade routes were closed. Regional leaders increased their security. Village councils denied any connection to the victims while privately ordering old records destroyed.

Then the Global ANBU issued its first public statement.

The announcement was delivered simultaneously to every recognized settlement, academy, faction stronghold, and independent shinobi outpost.

A masked ANBU commander appeared before the gathered press, flanked by representatives from several nations.

His voice was amplified through a network of communication seals.

“The Global ANBU confirms that five highly dangerous rogue shinobi are responsible for a series of coordinated attacks across Sechi.”

Images of the five appeared behind him.

Most were outdated.

Some showed them as children wearing village uniforms.

“These individuals possess unstable and potentially corrupted bloodline abilities. They have demonstrated no regard for civilian life, territorial borders, or international law.”

The commander paused.

“They refer to themselves as the Crimson Reckoning.”

Reporters began shouting questions.

“How many have they killed?”

“Were they former village shinobi?”

“Why were several victims connected to sealed military operations?”

“Is it true that one of the suspects was previously employed by the Global ANBU?”

The commander ignored them.

“Effective immediately, each member of the Crimson Reckoning is classified as an international threat. Shinobi encountering these individuals are ordered not to engage alone.”

The final notice caused murmurs throughout the room.

Classification pending did not mean the Global ANBU lacked information.

It meant the information was too dangerous to release.

“A joint operation is being formed to locate and apprehend the fugitives. Any shinobi possessing information regarding their movements must report immediately to the nearest authorized command center.”

A journalist near the front raised her voice.

“What does the Crimson Reckoning want?”

For the first time, the commander hesitated.

Only for a second.

But everyone saw it.

“They are criminals,” he answered. “Their motives are irrelevant.”

Elsewhere in Sechi...

Across Sechi, the transmission ended.

Inside an abandoned watchtower, five figures watched the communication seal go dark.

Daigo laughed bitterly.

“Our motives are irrelevant.”

“They always were,” Mira said.

Sorin studied the five wanted notices.

“They used the academy photographs.”

Nyra stared at the image of herself.

She could not have been older than nine.

Someone had written UNKNOWN CLAN ORIGIN beneath her name.

“They still have the records,” she whispered.

Kaizen looked toward the eastern mountains, where one of the most powerful surviving villages had rebuilt its walls.

“They have all of them.”

He unrolled a stolen map across the floor.

Five locations had been marked in red.

Five villages.

Five archives.

Five truths buried beneath layers of authority and blood.

“The world thinks we are moving without purpose,” Kaizen said. “Let them.”

Mira smiled as she examined the first target.

A fortified village responsible for training generations of child soldiers.

“What happens when they learn the truth?”

Kaizen folded the Global ANBU press release and held it over a lantern.

The paper caught fire.

“They will do what they have always done.”

He released it and watched the flames consume the declaration.

“They will send shinobi to silence us.”

Nyra stepped closer to the map.

“And when they come?”

Kaizen’s expression hardened.

“We tell them our stories.”

Outside, thunder rolled across the night.

Far below the tower, a messenger raced toward the nearest shinobi settlement carrying an urgent order from the Global ANBU.

The hunt for the Crimson Reckoning had begun.

But this would not be a simple pursuit.

Behind every body was a name.

Behind every attack was a buried crime.

And before the five could be judged for what they had become, the shinobi sent to stop them would first have to uncover what the world had done to create them.
