But something is wrong.
His stance is too easy, his smirk too sharp, his gaze too knowing. The wind stirs his scarf, but the fabric feels heavier now, weighed down by something unseen. The air thickens, charged with anticipation.
Then he exhales, long and slow, as if savoring the moment.
"Tell me… Do you even know what you’ve done?"
The question is soft, almost disappointed. Almost. But beneath it, coiled tight, is something else—something dark and gleeful. His eyes, ember-bright, gleam like a fire fed new fuel.
"Running my errands. Gathering my offerings. Walking right into my hands."
His hair moves unnaturally now, twisting as though caught in an unseen current, tendrils of shadow laced with embers. The illusion is unraveling. And yet, he still smiles.
"The Maw thanks you, truly."
Then, without warning—he shatters.
His body folds inward, his limbs snap, his ribs split apart like a beast shedding its skin. A sickening crack echoes through the air as his form twists, lengthens, grows.
Flames bloom along exposed bone, devouring flesh like paper. His fingers become talons. His spine uncoils, extending into a whip of vertebrae. His face—no, his mask—melts away, revealing something ancient, something monstrous.
The last remnants of Dusk’s stolen visage peel from his skull, revealing the gaping maw beneath, lined with searing fangs.
"Come now…"
His voice is deeper, distorted, vibrating through the air like a crack of thunder.
"You did all this work—don’t you want to see what you’ve freed?"
Then he roars, and the world burns.
