In the not so distant past, during one of the Great Seichi Wars, there was a rider from one of the smaller villages caught up in the war. This rider’s village was captured by one of the great villages and forced to aid in their war effort.
You see, this particular village was famous for producing some of the fastest horses, and strongest riders in all Seichi. This village also had a dark secret the world did not know about. This village held the secret of a forbidden technique known as Shigo no Kaiki Genshō, or the Afterlife Haunting. This forbidden technique binds the user’s soul to the mortal realm, allowing them to carry out their revenge. It was a technique that was only rumored to exist, but no one could even pin it down to who.
On one of the final nights of this war, the rider was coming back from delivering a message to one of the great villages. As he got closer and closer to his village, he could see a bright light in the distance. Too big for a bonfire. As he got closer and closer, he started to hear screams and pleading as the light got brighter and brighter. Upon arrival home, he found his village was burning and could see shadows of the villagers being slaughtered. Sneaking around he was able to see the assailants were the shinobi of the great village his village was forced to work for. As he watched in sheer horror of the events before him, he was then grabbed and tied up. He watched as he was placed into a line of people to be executed. The villagers were all pleading and asking why they were doing this. But the shinobi didn’t say anything.
It neared the riders turn. Instead of crying and becoming more scared as it neared his turn, he became more and more angry. His fury steadily climbing towards a tipping point until he was on the chopping block. His eyes went pure white, and he let out a scream that no man should be able to make. An axe came down swiftly and cleanly severing his head and torso. However, his head did not stop screaming. One of the shinobi grabbed the head, stuffed it into a bag, and ran out into the river then tossed the head to cease its screaming.
Black wind swirled around the rider’s body. The ropes binding him shredding into nothingness. The headless body stood and grabbed the nearest thing it could reach. A scythe. With a swift motion, the one that had just cut off the rider's head was now falling backwards. Their head falling straight down. The headless rider, not able to find his own head, grabbed the nearest object to his. A craved gourd for the fall festival that was to take place in a week.
Now, it is said that every few years, you can see the rider with a gourd for a head that wields a scythe, riding through the forest near the great villages. And anyone who is unlucky enough to be in the riders path, has their head taken off and can never be found.
Now rumors of the rider’s return has surface… what does this mean...?
