While I await my clean install of Windows (sorry again 😞), let’s talk about events and their difficulty.
In general, we want events to be fun for everyone. We are working on a better event system that will be more akin to a visual novel — but that takes time. The issue we face is that events that are fun at low levels are boring at high levels and vice versa.
We've seen the complaints about the dragon, and we can see the win rate. It's safe to say that while most players who are near cap had fun, those who are mid to bottom of the progression ladder didn't have fun and only faced frustration in trying to beat the event.
Now, the scaling system that we have at the moment doesn’t really help with difficulty. A level 100 AI is more akin to a level 60 player than an actual level 100 player. As such, we use different modifiers to scale the AI up to higher standards.
The problem with that is: lower levels get left behind. And it's really unfair to ask event members to create two or even three separate events to account for every bracket of player that we have.
That said, while we finish up the war system, we’re going to be adding a new system to the event codebase that allows us to clone events. This should make it possible to have two different events that are level locked.
Hopefully, this will allow us to make events easier for those who are lower levels and more challenging for those near cap.
